The UAE job market is currently witnessing high demand for entry-level junior executive roles, according to industry experts.

The increase in demand for these jobs can be attributed to several of the country’s initiatives to attract and retain talent.

“Instability in other parts of the world makes UAE one of the safest and most sought-after destinations. Many professionals who have very strong careers are forced to move to a city with more welcoming immigration policies. As a result, there is a high demand for these professional job roles,” Nikhil Nanda, Director, Innovations Group told Arabian Business in an exclusive interview.

According to a recent survey by Bayt, 46 percent of companies in the UAE are looking to fill junior executive positions. The data also revealed that sales manager, accountant, sales executive and administrative assistant roles are facing storing demand. This reflects “diverse opportunities available in our vibrant job market,” said Syed Muhammad Hisham, Bayt.

Increased demand in entry job levels, Nanda said, could be due to the fact that “talented professionals are moving from countries where there are elements of unrest and inflation” which results in a vast number of professionals “hoping to land their first job abroad.”

Bayt survey data revealed that candidates within these roles are prioritised based on several factors including strong communication skills, business management qualifications and more.

Nanda pointed out that the UAE job market is “one of the strongest in the world, especially during the winter season.” He explained that this could be due to the “ease of being able to bring in people from all over the world, employers have the pleasure and flexibility of hiring short-term contract and testing the talent.”

Due to the influx of employment seekers in the UAE, accelerated since the launch of the green residence visa and other such initiatives, “the need for specific skills and qualifications can pose a challenge for those who may not have these criteria..”

Certain industries are facing significant growth in comparison to others, namely, the IT sector, oil & gas, logistics, real estate and hospitality. E-commerce, banking, finance and accounting have also been recognised as booming industries.

“Additionally, keeping up with the changing dynamics of emerging sectors requires adaptability and continuous learning,” says Hisham.

Underestimated industries

According to Nanda, renewable energy is an industry that is “still heavily underestimated.” He also stated that the solar and hydro projects have resulted in an increase in “engineering jobs in the market.”

However, with a booming market comes its share of challenges. UAE employment seekers in the UAE face a highly competitive market.

Nanda believes that the challenge lies in “timing and personal branding.” For employers, the high demand for job translates to the need to have more interview rounds, budget assessments and more which leads to increased hiring time. This stands as an obstacle for candidates as they “give themselves a very short amount of time (1-3 months) to find a job where they start to become a generalist.”

How to become a “successful” job seeker?

Considering the high demand for roles as well as the high number of candidates, Nanda believes that “successful job seekers brand themselves, believe in their ideas, and find their dream job where they know they can deliver the best results due to their talent and interest.”

“Finding this passion or spark and connecting it to a company/individual takes a lot of time and networking,” he concluded.
