With Ramadan underway, professionals in the UAE are assessing career opportunities and considering whether this period is suitable for job searching.

While some believe hiring slows down during the Holy month, recruitment continues in key sectors, presenting opportunities for those seeking new roles.

A survey by Bayt.com, a regional job site, found that 79.1 per cent of professionals in the Middle East and North Africa focus on their job search and professional growth during Ramadan.

“Ramadan is a unique time for job seekers, offering both challenges and opportunities. While it’s true that things slow down a bit, it’s also a period where companies are looking for additional talent. Patience and persistence go a long way, and job seekers should remember that a personal connection during this time can make a lasting impact,” Ramy Labaky, General Director of Bayt.com said.

The period allows professionals to reflect on career goals, refine job search strategies, and develop new skills.

Hiring activity varies across industries during Ramadan. While some sectors operate at a slower pace, industries such as hospitality, retail, e-commerce, logistics, and health services ramp up recruitment to meet seasonal demand.

Another Bayt.com survey reported that 69 per cent of professionals believe hiring increases during Ramadan, particularly for customer service, supply chain management, and temporary positions.

Many companies also use this period to finalise hiring plans for projects starting after Ramadan.

Networking plays a role in job searching during this time. Business Iftars and corporate Suhoor gatherings provide professionals with opportunities to connect with recruiters, industry leaders, and potential employers in informal settings. These interactions can lead to future job opportunities.

Networking plays a role in job searching during the Holy month

To improve job search efforts during Ramadan, professionals are advised to update their CVs, refine their online presence, and remain persistent despite slower response times due to reduced working hours.

Engaging in networking through online platforms and in-person events can help job seekers establish professional connections.

Cultural awareness is an important aspect of the job search process. Understanding the customs of Ramadan, such as fasting hours and scheduling interviews at suitable times, can help candidates leave a positive impression on employers.

The UAE job market continues to offer opportunities across multiple industries. Infrastructure projects, developments in technology, finance, and healthcare, and economic diversification efforts contribute to hiring activity.

As Ramadan progresses, professionals have the opportunity to plan their next career steps, explore new roles, and build industry connections. A strategic approach can help job seekers navigate the job market effectively despite the adjusted work schedule during the holy month.
