Midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron has turned down a £7m offer by Manchester City to return to the Premier League, it has been reported.

The 34-year-old, who plays for the Argentine team Estudiantes, said he rejected the offer by the Abu Dhabi-owned club because of family reasons.

"I did it for my family," he told Italy's Corriere Dello Sport. “But also because I chose to continue my career here at Estudiantes and I want to respect this contract.”

Veron was the team's best player during the recent Club World Championship in Abu Dhabi, reported Goal.com.

He was team-mates with Roberto Mancini at Sampdoria and Lazio and played under the new Man City coach at Internazionale.
