Jumeirah to open theme park

Dubai-based luxury hospitality group, Jumeirah has signed a management agreement with Al Sharq Investment to operate an AED 7 billion (US $1.9 billion) resort in Dubailand.

The Jordan-based investment company recently signed over the management of the 743,200m² Aqua Dunya Theme Park Resort to Jumeirah, a project that will comprise the Aqua Dunya theme park, the Jumeirah Desert Pearl Hotel, a retail, dining and entertainment district, and holiday apartments.

The dry and wet theme park, which has been dubbed the world’s biggest leisure, entertainment and tourism attraction by Jumeirah, is expected to open in 2009, according to Gerald Lawless, CEO, Jumeirah.

“Operating the spectacular water theme park facilities in Aqua Dunya will give us the opportunity to further build on the success of Wild Wadi and we look forward to providing the guests and visitors to the resort a truly unique, exciting and memorable experience,†he said.

The resort will boast its own port and traditional market district. Additional special features will be announced in the second phase of development.
