Jumeirah Group offers the highest pay packets in the region, claiming the title for the third year in a row, according to the results in the Hotelier Middle East Salary Survey 2015.
This year, 41.3 percent of respondents said that Jumeirah Group pays the highest, which is an increase in last year when 37.9 percent said the same.
This year, Four Seasons was rated as the second highest payer in the region, with 30.3 percent saying it pays the most, while Emaar Hospitality Group came in a close third, taking 29.7 percent of votes.
Jumeirah Zabeel Saray GM Fernando Gibaja asserts that pay is of course important, but Jumeirah Group, which was voted as offering the best pay packets in the region also puts a strong emphasis on staff development to supplement the financial benefits.
“Jumeirah is a company that has a genuine care of our colleagues,” he said, adding that the company continues to look at ways of improving packages for staff and is currently working with a third-party company on this.
“They have been working with us for the last year and see how the other hotels and companies are treating colleagues to see the overall packages and now they are doing it in stages and I know that in summer time it’s going to impact in a healthy positive way,” said Gibaja.
Last year Accor was rated the company that offered the least competitive pay packets in the region – with 18.5 percent of respondents claiming this.
This year however, the company fared slightly better, with 17.7 percent saying the group pays the lowest wages — the firm was third rather than first on the list.
Citymax was the lowest payer in the region, as voted by 22.8 percent of respondents, while Golden Tulip came second on the list (21.8 percent).
In terms of pay scales, most respondents (24.7 percent) claimed they earn US$1500 - 3000. This represents a similar figure to last year when 25.4 percent to be in that earning bracket.
Fewer respondents this year (11.2 percent) are earning less than US$ 1500, while last year the percentage was 19.6 percent.
This year, 16.5 percent of participants claimed they are earning US$3001 - 4,500, compared to just 14.6 percent last year.
The majority of survey participants (24.2 percent) this year said that their monthly remuneration 12 months ago was US$1501 - 3,000, however in the 2014 survey, the majority of respondents (24.1 percent) said their monthly remuneration 12 months previously had been less than US$1500, while 22.4 percent said it was US$1,500 - 3,000.
This year, 18.1 percent – around 3.5 percent more than last year - reported that their salary 12 months prior to taking the survey was US$3000 - 4500.
The Hotelier Middle East Salary Survey 2015 closed on May 18, 2015 and was completed by 527 hoteliers working across the Middle East hotel industry.
