K+N targets Japanese airline market

Kuehne + Nagel has opened a new logistics centre in Narita, Japan, within close proximity to Narita Airport.

Kuehne + Nagel has opened a new logistics centre in Narita, Japan, within close proximity to Narita Airport.

The facility consists of 10,000m2 of warehousing and handling space, and is situated 3.5 kilometres away from the airport. A large section of the warehouse is dedicated solely to airfreight as the company hopes to attract the business of nearby airlines.

"This new logistics centre underlines our strategy of expanding contract logistics activities globally, with the aim of offering integrated logistics services in all countries," said Dirk Reich, executive vice president contract logistics, Kuehne + Nagel International AG.

Airline companies have been identified as the key customers for the facility, with Kuehne + Nagel marketing the site as a global logistics hub. It is hoped to cater for all the national carrier's in-flight requirements, providing for airlines' catering companies and service stations worldwide.

Khuene + Nagel plans to open two other facilities in Japan later this year as they seek to establish themselves in the region.
