The owners of the new Marsa Malaz Kempinski hotel on The Pearl-Qatar were forced to delay the expected December 1 opening at the 11th hour, according to Doha News.

A spokesman for the hotel confirmed to the website on Tuesday that the launch had been postponed.

It was not clear how the delay would affect bookings.

The December 1 date had been announced only four weeks prior.

The five-star property, owned by Qatari company Al Fardan Group, would be the first hotel on The Pearl and was set to be the only location on the manmade island allowed to serve alcohol.

It is planned to eventually have 11 bars, cafes and restaurants including a roof-top nightclub.
