KEO International Consultants has won an award at the 2008 MIPIM Architectural Review Future Project Awards.

The company claimed the Commended award in the Regeneration and Masterplanning category at the real estate show in Cannes, France, for its South of Shamkha project in Abu Dhabi. The project was one of 200 entries in the category, which recognises excellence in unbuilt projects.

South of Shamkha is a 4,300 hectare development located 50km south of Abu Dhabi Island. Once complete, it will provide homes for at least 115,000 people.

The masterplan places emphasis on clean, liveable space, with many large parks, landscaped recreation areas, and playgrounds. A green belt connects district parks with district centres.

The anticipated population that will reside within the new master plan is currently estimated at more than 115,000 new residents and could amount to more than 200,000.  The areas it will serve include Baniyas, Shamkha, New Al Falah, New Al Wathba and other future adjacent developments.

"The master plan's uniqueness stems from carefully considered planning principles that drove how the future city's structure evolved," said Donna Sultan, CEO of KEO International Consultants.
