STRONG FRIENDSHIP: Kuwait decided to go ahead with the embassy thanks to its "strong friendship" with island state

Kuwait is planning to set up an embassy in Malta in the near future, in a bid to enhance diplomatic relations with the island state, the Malta’s Department of Information has said.

Diplomatic relations between Malta and Kuwait began in 1974 and the Maltese embassy in Riyadh is accredited to Kuwait.

“Thanks to the strong friendship between the two countries, the State of Kuwait decided to go ahead with this step and set up an embassy in Malta,” the Department of Information said in a statement.

The forthcoming embassy will include a resident ambassador and a team of diplomats, the report added.

A Kuwait state delegation conducted a visit to Malta in April this year.
