Kuwait ruler said to be in good health after UK checks
HH Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmed Al Sabah

The ruler of Kuwait, HH Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmed Al Sabah, was
discharged from hospital on Monday after having successful health checks, the state news agency KUNA said.

The 82 year-old, who underwent routine check-ups and
received good reports, is now to spend the next several days in the UK on a
private visit.

Sheikh Sabah became emir of Kuwait in January 2006 after
serving as Prime Minister for the country for three years.

At the moment, he is focused on launching new projects to
boost tourism to the Arab state, which holds about one tenth of the world's
crude oil reserves.

The pro-Western ruler is recognized for being a strong
advocate of women’s rights in the Middle East, and for introducing laws to
increase the freedom of the press.
