Larsen & Toubro Ltd is to invest around US $24.4 million (INR993 million) in training centres in order to overcome a lack of skilled workers in the engineering and construction sectors. Six centres will be set up by 2009 in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad and Chennai. Three-month courses will focus on vocations such as carpentry, masonry, brickwork, bar bending, steel fixing, plumbing, sanitary, electrical and trade assistance. Around 1,000 to 2,000 people will be trained every year. Candidates will be selected through a process of written and practical examinations and an interview.
