Lagardere-led group wins duty free contract at Riyadh airport

A consortium led by Lagardère Travel Retail together with Saudi Airlines Catering Company, and Arabian Ground Handling Logistic Company, has been awarded the concession contract to operate 2,040 sq m of space in terminals 1 and 2 of King Khaled International Airport in Riyadh.

The contract will provide Lagardère Travel Retail with the opportunity to operate two Duty Free units, offering perfumes and cosmetics, fashion and accessories, gold and diamonds, tobacco, confectionery, food stuff and toiletries, electronics, toys and souvenirs.

In 2015, more than 10 million international passengers used Riyadh King Khaled International Airport as their origin, destination or transit point.

Dag Rasmussen, chairman and CEO of Lagardère Travel Retail said: "Lagardère Travel Retail is extremely proud to be awarded the concession to operate the Duty Free stores in Kind Khaled International Airport in Riyadh.

"We will do our upmost to warrant the trust the Airport showed in us and are looking forward to create the ultimate Duty Free experience for passengers using Kind Khaled International Airport. We are confident that the operations, carried out in partnership with two reputable and competent partners, will be highly successful."

Abdulaziz Aboharba, CEO of Riyadh Airports Company added: "The airport is looking forward to welcoming Lagardère Travel Retail and is looking forward to a long and successful partnership and welcoming the injection of new and international brands to the duty free shops. We are looking forward to the new shops opening which will provide us with a combination of International standards together with the cultures of Saudi Arabia."

Earlier this year, Saudi Arabia’s first privately run airport terminal - Terminal 5 at King Khalid International Terminal which handles domestic services - opened to the public.
