In a move to combat the spread of drugs and eliminate their sources of financing the kingdom, Saudi Arabia’s General Directorate of Narcotics Control (GDNC) has launched a campaign targeting the younger generation, who are the most vulnerable to drug addiction, according to a report by the Saudi Gazette.
As part of the campaign, the GDNC announced several arrests of individuals involved in the marketing and sale of various types of drugs across Saudi Arabia.
In Jeddah, two people, including an expatriate, were arrested for spreading a narcotic substance. Similarly, another person was apprehended in Riyadh for promoting drug pills.
Moreover, the GDNC arrested two people in Jazan and one each in Asir, Eastern Province, and Al-Qassim for circulating hashish. The man arrested in the Eastern Province was found to be using social media platforms to promote the illegal substance.
In another major bust recently, the GDNC, in cooperation with the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, foiled the smuggling of over 12 million narcotic amphetamine pills.

The drugs were hidden in a shipment of pomegranate fruit, indicating the sophisticated methods used by drug smugglers.
The GDNC has emphasised the importance of social responsibility in its campaign against drugs and urged members of the community to report any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking.
The campaign, titled ‘Report them,’ highlights the role of the community in combating the scourge of drugs.
To further its efforts, the GDNC has launched a social media campaign with the hashtag “War on Drugs,” stressing the kingdom’s determination to eradicate drug smuggling and financing through its security services.
The campaign underscores the government’s commitment to eliminating the threat of drugs in the kingdom and safeguarding the well-being of its citizens.
