Since its introduction, the Bentley Bentayga has been at the forefront of the luxury SUV market, offering “the ultimate Grand Touring experience”. That experience is now available in a performance-enhanced new model, the Bentayga V8.

Everything rests on Bentley’s next-generation 4.0-litre, twin-turbo- charged V8 petrol engine, which manages to combine ferocious power with remarkable fuel efficiency. This sportier vibe is further enhanced by a characteristic V8 burble, stylish twin-quad exhaust pipes and optional carbon-ceramic brakes.

The results are staggering: this is an engine that develops 542 bhp (550 PS) and 568 lb.ft. (770 Nm) of torque, resulting in a top speed of 290 kph and 100 kph in 4.5 seconds.

And yet somehow this beast of a V8 has a range of 746 km, with CO2 emissions of just 260 g/km. This is achievable thanks to the engine being able to de-activate four of its eight cylinders in suitable conditions, without compromising the drive. The seamless change happens in just 20 milliseconds, making it imperceptible to customers.

The addition of Stop-Start technology, which can activate at ‘near-to-stop’ speeds, also contributes to the emissions figure.

The other trick Bentley has had to perfom is to ally this power with the luxury, limousine-like refinement that you’d expect from the British marque. And this has been achieved through Bentley’s Drive Dynamics system.

Design for life

The exterior design of the Bentayga V8 reflects the model’s sporting position within the Bentayga family.

The shape is defined by the Bentayga’s unique muscular, sculptural lines, balancing athleticism with an unmistakable presence on the road. From the four round LED headlamps to the large matrix grille, the Bentayga V8 exudes the Bentley design DNA, while the overt powerline, large rear haunches and raised ride height reflect the rugged off-road ability of the luxury SUV.

For the first time, optional carbon-ceramic brakes are offered on the Bentayga. The braking system is the most powerful ever fitted to a Bentley, providinga maximum braking torque of 6,000 Nm.

In front of these sit a choice of 11 wheel designs, including an all-new 22” five-spoke wheel with black painted and polished finish.

A resolute black and chrome grille at the front and ‘twin-quad’ exhaust tailpipes at rear, are stylish bookends to a remarkable piece of engineering.

Handcrafed Interiors

The Bentayga V8 fuses intricate detailing with handcrafted precision. Customers can specify hand cross-stitching, and there is the choice of the Bentayga’s four-, five-, or seven-seat configuration, for added versatility.

Three new interior options are on offer: a high-gloss carbon-fibre finish; a wood and hide steering wheel; and a new rich red leather, Cricket Ball, with its instantly appealing deep chestnut hue of a new cricket ball.

Unrestrained on the outside

The Bentley Dynamic Ride is the world’s first electric active roll control technology that utilises a 48V system. This ensures cabin stability, ride comfort and exceptional handling.

It offers up to eight modes of on- and off-road drive settings, allowing drivers to select the perfect set-up for any surface. There is also multi-mode air suspension and Hill Descent Control which automatically regulates the vehicle’s speed on steep declines.

Adaptive Cruise Control and Traffic Assist enables the driver to maintain a set distance to the vehicle in front, while in urban environments, there are a number of driver aids, including Traffic Sign Recognition, Rear Crossing Traffic Warning, and Top View, a system which uses four cameras to display an overall picture of the vehicle’s surroundings. Other innovative systems available include Night Vision, which uses infra-red to identify potential obstacles.

Finally, the touch screen infotainment system boasts class-leading navigation technology, while rear seat passengers benefit from the introduction of the Bentley Entertainment Tablet – a removable 10.2” Android device with 4G, WiFi and Bluetooth for high-speed on-board connectivity.

Not that you need entertaining in a car of this magnitude.
