British boxer Amir Khan has said he favours a fight against Floyd Mayweather over a possible Dubai meeting with Manny Pacquiao.

Mayweather has yet to decide on his next opponent for what’s supposed to be his final fight in September. Reports in the US suggest that the undefeated welterweight will face either Karim Mayfield or Andre Berto, both of whom would be easy opponents for Mayweather.

Khan, who was linked to a possible fight against Pacquiao in Dubai next year, remains hopeful that he can persuade Mayweather he should be his final opponent before the 38-year-old American supposedly hangs up his gloves.

In an interview with The National, Khan flatly dismissed rumours that he has been in discussions with a promoter over a fight against Pacquiao in Dubai early next year.

“It’s all rumours and speculation, I’ve not spoken to Manny about a fight in Dubai and neither did our camps, so it’s untrue. Look, if Manny wants to fight, we can do it, I’ve offered him and his team in the past, but they turned us down,” Khan told the newspaper.

“If Manny mans up and wants to take the fight then it will happen, but the only fight I am interested in right now is Floyd Mayweather,” he added.

Dubai Sports Council has also denied that it has been involved in discussions over a fight in the emirate.
