Dubai Police has used empty cannon bullet shells, which were used to signal iftar time during Ramadan, to create art that reflects the spirit of family and coming together, two elements often highlight in the holy month.

The artwork, titled ’family’, was created in collaboration with Emirati artist Mattar Bin Lahej.

It is made up of 30 empty bullet shells, with each shell containing a verse from the ‘Devotion’ chapter from the Quran on the interior of its walls. The verse was created in a golden colour to match the gold-plated colour of the metal bullet.

The Devotion chapter was chosen for the artwork because it addresses similar principles emphasised during the holy month of Ramadan.
