Dubai’s Level Shoe District, the world’s largest shoe store covers, is aiming to capitalise on the growing global market for shoes and achieve average sales of 1000 pieces of footwear per day, an increase of nearly two thirds, executives said.
The shoe sector grew by $2bn to $17bn worldwide in a single year and at over 96,000 square feet, The Dubai Mall’s has proven to be a haven for global shoe fanatics.
It is the home to 300 unique brands and, since its opening in October 2012, it has sold an average of around 600 pairs of shoes per day.
Now executives are aiming to reach 1,000 sales a day, a rise of two thirds, by launching some innovative new attractions.
Level Shoe District was the first store in the world to launch the 24-carat gold Alberto Moretti shoes, two months ahead of Barneys New York, Fred Segal Los Angeles, Harrods London, and The Swank Hong Kong.
Three pairs have been sold since the launch date, with price tags ranging from $3290 and $5,200.
On November 6, Italian shoe designers Louis Leeman and Erica Pelonsini made a personal appearance at the store to launch their new fall collection and introduce exclusive pieces made specifically for level Shoe district.
These include Snake the gold Capped loafers Metal Toe and Heel loafers, priced at $1,000, and the key piece of the fall 2013-14 Collection, the Marchesa Casati Slipper with Bordeaux Silk, sold for $1,620.
“We are excited to offer our discerning clients exclusive collections which are especially created for Level,” said Rania Masri, general manager of Chalhoub Own Fashion Concept, the company behind the vast space.
According to Masri, the store’s top spenders are from Saudi Arabia, particularly Riyadh. Around a fifth of customers are UAE residents while the rest are tourists, mostly from China, India and now that the weather is changing the store has seen an increased number of shoppers from Russia.
