Falcons sold at Qatar auction for up to $27,500

Around 150 birds were sold during event, with the most expensive bought by a local Qatari national enthusiast

The most expensive falcon sold at a recent auction in Doha this weekend was bought by a local enthusiast for QR100,000 ($27,468), it was reported.

The auction was organised by Souq Waqif Boutique Hotels and the Falcon Hospital, with average prices for the young Shaheen falcons ranging from QR25,000 to QR70,000, The Peninsula newspaper reported.

Around 150 birds were sold during the two-day event, with the most expensive bought by a Qatari national for QR100,000.

Saree Hamad Al Hajri, director of the Souq Waqif bird market and one of the organisers of the event said the auction aimed to highlight interest in the art of falconry and encourage enthusiasts from around the Gulf to come and buy some of the best falcons on offer.
