Dubai closes all gyms, cinemas as UAE coronavirus cases rise to 86

A circular issued by the Government of Dubai on Sunday said gyms, cinemas, theme parks, amusement games and electronic games centres and spring camps are to be suspended.

All gymnasiums and cinemas in Dubai have been ordered to close until the end of March, following a directive issued by the emirate’s Department of Economic Development (DED).

A circular issued by the Government of Dubai on Sunday said gyms, cinemas, theme parks, amusement games and electronic games centres and spring camps are to be suspended.

It comes as a further case of coronavirus was confirmed in the UAE on Sunday morning, taking the total number to 86.

Over the weekend, authorities ordered all entertainment destinations to suspend operations and called on all hospitality establishments and wedding halls to stop wedding gatherings from Sunday until the end of the month.

Inspections will be carried out to verify compliance with the circular, it added.

The Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi has placed an immediate ban on events and closed all nightclubs.

Although there has been no official notice issued on bars and restaurants in the country, popular Irish venue McGettigans has said its Al Raha branch in Abu Dhabi would close with immediate effect, “in line with preventative measures for coronavirus and under instruction from the Department of Culture and tourism”.
