Running an airport must be one of the most complicated jobs; doing it at the same time as constructing the next world’s biggest airport is akin to juggling knives. But Paul Griffiths has successfully overseen unrelenting growth at Dubai International Airport – reaching the lofty status of the busiest in the world – and an ambitious plan to create a 160-million-passenger-a-year facility, Al Maktoum International Airport.
Griffiths has also revolutionised Dubai International’s immigration and security processes and has initiated research and trials of some of the most state-of-the-art technology of any airport. With soaring passenger demand pushing the airport’s capacity, managing airline landing slots and the limitations of the UAE’s congested airspace does not make his job any easier. An incredibly personable man, he is easily one of the highest achievers in the global aviation industry.
