Hayatt-Ruqayah AbdulWahhab Alqatami Breast Cancer Foundation
The founder of Kuwait’s Oncology Centre in the 1980s, Dr Temmim has played a huge role with research into breast cancer and lymphoma, treating cancer patients, and also raising awareness and breaking taboos about discussing the disease. Her work led to incidence rates falling considerably in the decades she worked – because women felt encouraged to come forward and discuss early treatment options.
Dr Temmim remains active despite her retirement, helping found the Hayatt Ruqayah Abdulwahab Alqatami Breast Cancer Foundation in 2007 to treat cancer patients in Kuwait, via donations, regardless of nationality or religion. Dr Temmim is the recipient of several awards including France’s Chevalier Dans L’ordre Des Palmes Academiques, and a place in the Leading Health Professionals of the World at the International Biographical Centre in Cambridge, England.
