Founder and CEO
Ahmed Abou Hashima is CEO of the Cairo-based Egyptian Steel, which he co-founded in 2010. A self-made entrepreneur, Abou Hashima has worked in the steel industry since 1996. In January 2011, he took a calculated risk and pumped a $1bn investment into Egyptian Steel. By 2018, Egyptian Steel and its subsidiaries will be producing 20-25 percent of the country’s steel supply – and thanks to state-of-the-art and eco-friendly technologies, the group will soon be the largest green steel producer around the world.
Abou Hashima also established The Egyptian Building Material Complex, which includes six factories and includes Egyptian Cement, which will produce two million tonnes per year. It is the first step towards realising his dream of making the group a one-stop shop for building materials.
He is involved in philanthropic work across Egypt, and encourages personal and professional development among the country’s youth. His activities include an initiative to revamp 40 of Egypt’s most impoverished villages – 14 of which have now been completed – and to deliver fresh water taps
to 1,000 houses in Nazla Village, Fayoum.
In addition to the CSR activities, he’s a sports enthusiast who supports young athletes, and sponsors Paralympic champions and teams.
