Company: Virgin Mobile MEA
It was just a year ago that Alan Gow was named the new boss of Virgin Mobile’s Middle East and Africa operations, overseeing the launch of the operator in the UAE under parent company, the Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (du).
Gow is credited with co-founding Virgin Mobile in the UK with Sir Richard Branson by creating a business model centred around a mobile virtual network operator, the first time such an operation had ever been introduced.
Under his leadership, Virgin Mobile in the UK grew to become a $1bn company in less than four years. Gow was also responsible for steering the company through a series of funding rounds and an initial public offering on the London Stock Exchange (LSE) in 2004.
Gow also led a $1.6bn sales transaction to create the Virgin Media Group in the UK in 2006.
The company has since become a leader in state-of-the-art technologies with operations across Europe.
