As CEO of du, Sultan is credited with leading the charge and transforming the UAE’s telecom sector. Under his leadership, the UAE’s second telecom operator has grown to become the Middle East’s fastest growing telecoms company, reaching profitability just two years after it launched operations in 2008. Du gained nearly half of all the UAE’s mobile subscribers less than five years later, and today has more than nine million active subscribers while also serving over 100,000 businesses.
Sultan’s success in telecoms spans three decades and across Europe, North America and MENA. Before joining du, he was founding CEO of Mobinil in Egypt in 1998, where he realised his dream of putting “a cell phone in the hands of everyone.” At du, he says that he wants to open the door to endless possibilities for a new generation that is rapidly becoming a part of the global ‘telecom civilisation’, one in which telecommunications is integral to everyday life.
