The national carrier is famous not only for being one of the best airlines in the world, but also for boasting an incredible success story, having begun its journey in 1985, Emirates with just two aircrafts. Today, it flies the world’s biggest fleets of Airbus A380s and Boeing 777s to over 155 destinations in more than 80 countries around the world. Each week, over 1,500 Emirates flights depart Dubai. The airline, which is a subsidiary of The Emirates Group that is wholly owned by the government of Dubai’s Investment Corporation of Dubai, was named among the most popular brands in the UAE in 2018 according to a number of reports including the annual YouGov BrandIndex Buzz Rankings. It was also found to be one of the most attractive employers for business students according to statistics from employer branding firm Universum.
In 2017, Emirates announced a partnership with flydubai to offer customers more travel options. While both airlines continue to be managed independently, they leverage each other’s network to boost growth. In the first six months of their partnership, they revealed strong passenger numbers, with over 250,000 travellers having already planned their trips for the year ahead. The partnership began with codeshare flights to 29 cities, but has since expanded.
Emirates president Tim Clark also said last year that he wants robots like the ones used by Amazon’s warehouses to handle airport baggage with no human intervention. He said they would ID bags, put them in prescribed bins and later take them out of the aircraft. The airline carried over 59 million passengers on over 3,700 passenger flights on average per week in 2018. It served a menu of over 66 million meals on its flights.
