The man behind the diversified international conglomerate headquartered in DIFC, UAE, started with the establishment of Thumbay Group in 1998, and has since set up business operations in 20 sectors.
Today, the group operates in sectors including education, healthcare, medical research, diagnostics, retail, real estate, publishing, technology, events, trading and marketing.
It employs close to 5,000 people, a number projected to increase to around 20,000 by the year 2023, as ongoing and upcoming projects are completed.
The Thumbay chain of hospitals is one of the largest healthcare services providers in the UAE, serving patients from over 175 nationalities, while the Gulf Medical University (GMU) is one of the leading private medical universities in the Middle East, attracting students from over 80 countries and staff from more than 25 countries.
Currently, Thumbay Group is focusing on its strategic long-term plans, according to Moideen, and will see the company scale its businesses almost 10 times and expand its operations globally.
The Group plans to build three more international campuses over the next five years and to expand the Thumbay network of academic hospitals to a total capacity of 1,000 beds in the UAE, 1500 beds in India and 750 beds in the Gulf and Africa. The group also plans to expand specialised retail outlets.
Moideen has been ranked 59 in the prestigious Barclays HurunIndia Rich List 2018, and has been featured in various lists such as the 50 Richest Indians in the GCC by Arabian Business, and the Top 100 Indian Leaders in the UAE. Moreover, he was honoured at the House of Lords, UK for contributions in the fields of healthcare and medical education.
The tycoon also has an honorary doctorate from Amity University, Dubai, for significant contributions towards the promotion of medical education, trade and industry, and social and economic development. He has received several awards such as the Global Leader award at NDTV Gulf Indian Excellence Awards 2016 and NGI Excellence Award 2012 at the Global Indian Business Meet (GIBM) in New York.
