Vice president & managing director for Middle East
Fontana is responsible for the market growth for HPE’s complete portfolio of products, solutions and services across the Middle East. He joined HP in 1989 and has served in a variety of executive and managerial positions in sales, marketing and business development.
Recently, Fontana served as the vice president and general manager for communication, media and entertainment (CME) within HP’s Enterprise Group, focusing on Eastern Europe, Middle East & Africa. He previously led the Italian sales organisation. In those roles, Fontana was responsible for coordinating the business, strategic plan and alliances to offer solutions to address customer needs in the Enterprise arena.
Fontana also served as leader in the HPE European banking sales organisation and in the WW public sector partners and channel team. Before this role, he was director and general manager of the HPE Services Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) Alliances team.
Previously, he was GM of HPE’s worldwide Cisco systems sales & alliances. He also led the global business development team for HPE’s telecommunications business unit, overseeing regional business development and sales efforts to telecom service providers in emerging markets worldwide. In 1997, he was named strategic alliances manager for Verifone, then the leading company in the electronic commerce market.
A post graduate in computer sciences and artificial intelligence from Italy’s University of Pisa, Fontana studied business management at MIT’s Sloan School of Management and Stanford University. In 1999, he won a patent for developing the ‘Real Time Banking System’, a joint project between HPE, Verifone and Huntington Bank.
