Having established Thumbay Group in the United Arab Emirates in 1998, Dr. Thumbay Moideen went on to diversify his single-entity group into a leading global conglomerate, with its core businesses in education, healthcare, research, retail and hospitality. The operation is spread across all of the emirates of the UAE, encompassing Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain, Al Ain and Fujairah.
Thumbay Group today has several ‘firsts’ to its credit: The first private medical university in the region – Gulf Medical University owned by Thumbay Group has evolved into a leading medical university in the region, with six colleges, 26 accredited programs, partnerships with 60+ international universities and students from over 80 nationalities. The Thumbay Hospital network under the group’s healthcare division is the first of its kind in the country’s private sector, and boasts the largest network of private academic hospitals in the region, treating patients from around as many as 175 nationalities.
Dr. Thumbay Moideen was conferred an honorary doctorate for significant contributions towards the promotion of medical education, trade and industry, and social and economic development of the nation. He has also received recognition at national and international levels, for excellence in business, innovation and for his pioneering contributions to the fields of education, healthcare and research, as well as social and humanitarian endeavors.
His sons are actively involved in the business: Akbar Moideen Thumbay is the vice president of the healthcare division and Akram Moideen Thumbay is the director-operations of the group’s construction and renovation division, as well as the director of Thumbay Technologies.
