Ahmed Kamal Abul Magd

Designation: Professor

Abul Magd has received many accolades in the press recently. He has been described as one of “the nation’s most widely-published experts on Islam” and in his book
Islam Without Fear

author Raymond William Baker lists Abdul Magd among “some as the most influential Islamic scholars in the world today.”

This is hardly surprising as he has had a major role in public diplomacy in the Middle East and has held a number of high-profile positions.

Following the September 11 terrorist attacks in the US, the Arab League appointed him the commissioner responsible for dialogue between civilisations.

Up until recently, he was also vice president of the National Council for Human Rights. However, he was replaced in February without explanation and it was described in the press as “one among a series of inexplicable losses of brilliant persons who unselfishly served their country with utmost dedication.”

Abul Magd said he would remain in the council and said he would “continue fighting for human rights in Egypt and the Arab world.”

Abdul Magd was also previously worked as Egypt’s information minister.

Abul Magd is a constitutional lawyer by trade and is currently a professor of international law at the Cairo University.
