Lotus Software has announced the launch of the first two products in its next generation software product line. The vendor intends to offer fully integrating collaboration technologies with end-to-end business processes. The two products launched were a Beta version e-mail application and a full scale launch of Lotus Learning Management System. Both products utilise open standards in an attempt to create a fully integrated system."In today's constantly changing business climate, it is important that we provide our customers with a scalable, flexible and secure set of solutions which enable them to easily integrate our products into their existing software infrastructure through open standards," says Ambuj Goyal, general manager of Lotus Software."Additionally, it's imperative that we provide our ever-growing developer community with the knowledge and skills to continue developing industry leading solutions on our core products and create equally powerful next generation solutions," he adds. The "Next Gen" e-mail solution is aimed at companies with a large "deskless" workforce. It enables manufacturers, for instance, to offer e-mail to production line workers in a cost effective manner. The standards based system is built to run on IBM WebSphere and IBM DB2 technologies, while complementing existing Lotus environments. The Learning Management System similarly uses standards to easily integrate with other applications and content.
