Lufthansa taps into UAE leisure market

HolidayEurope will offer packages to five European destinations.

Lufthansa German Airlines has launched a new outbound holidays division in the UAE, with a brochure featuring five key European destinations.

The launch of HolidayEurope signifies the first time customers have been able to buy a Lufthansa-branded package holiday from the UAE.

"With such cultural diversity across Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland and the United Kingdom [the five featured destinations], deciding where to go on holiday in Europe can be a [hard] choice to make for our customers," said Uwe Wriedt, general manager passenger sales UAE & director Gulf & Pakistan, Lufthansa.

"With HolidayEurope, we are able to use the extensive network of Lufthansa across Europe so our customers can truly experience the travel and a taste of Europe's vast history."

Lufthansa-trained travel consultants will be on hand to offer advice to customers or travel agents who call the EuropeHoliday call center, as well as recommend different programs to suit individual customers and tailor make itineraries to include options such as business class seats, two-stop vacations, or other European destinations that do not feature in the brochure.

"After extensive research and customer feedback, Lufthansa finds this to be the right time and location to launch HolidayEurope," Wreidt explained.

"Europe's culture is so rich that you can cater to all kinds of different target groups."

The new brochure features hotels in five German cities, four cities in Austria, Switzerland and Italy, and hotels in London, UK.

Each destination's section includes information about the city, key events taking place throughout the year and minimum and maximum prices that customers can expect to pay.

Prices are based on twin share accommodation, and include return economy class flights on Lufthansa and continental breakfast in a choice of three-, four- or five-star accommodation.

Wreidt said HolidayEurope would "take it slow", and although he said that the company would one day like to include many more destinations in the brochure, he said it had no immediate plans to introduce additional destinations nor offer packages from other GCC countries.

As an introductory offer, HolidayEurope is offering all of Lufthansa's Miles and More cardholders an additional 5000 miles per HolidayEurope booking until 30.09.07.
