Mövenpick ready for largest Arabian Travel Market

Mövenpick Hotels and Resorts is planning its biggest ever presence at this year's Arabian Travel Market (ATM).

Mövenpick Hotels and Resorts is planning its biggest ever presence at this year's Arabian Travel Market (ATM).

Middle East vice president sales and marketing Toufic Tamim said the Swiss hotel company's stand would be 120m

last year.

"That shows you the importance of ATM to us," he said.

"We are not making the size big for the sake of being big, but there are so many hotels that are joining us to participate. I think the first year [we were at ATM] we had six hotels participate, and this year there will be 25 on the same stand."

Toufic said the company planned to increase its stand again in the future as more properties opened, capitalising on the trend of increasing disposable income allowing more outbound and inter-regional travel.

" We keep opening hotels where the GCC market, the Arab market and the Middle East market are the key feeder markets," he added.

"We just opened our hotel in Phuket, and I know they are participating in force in ATM because they know, based on last summer, how important that market is to Thailand and Phuket."

Toufic predicted that the Arabian Travel Market itself was also in for a bumper year.

"It seems this year's ATM will be big, not just because there so many new hotels opening up, but also because it is said this summer is going to be one of the hottest on record," he explained.

"We expect to have a bigger share of the GCC market exiting to cooler destinations, so Europe might get a bigger share this year, along with Asia and Australia."
