Samer Majali, president & CEO of Royal Jordanian, was elected to IATA’s board of governors during the international airline association’s AGM last week.

The 30 members of IATA’s board are elected by the association from among 270 international airlines CEOs. The board sets the association’s rules and regulations and submits projects to be implemented by it.

The AGM focused on five initiatives set out by IATA in its ‘simplifying the business’ project, which are designed to ease air travel worldwide. These comprise 100% implementation of e-ticketing worldwide by 2007, implementation of Common Use Self Service (CUSS) kiosks worldwide, a standardised barcode for boarding passes, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) for baggage management and the implementation of paperless cargo by 2010.
