Mall of Oman, once complete, will generate up to 5,000 job opportunities, a senior official from Majid Al Futtaim Properties has claimed.

The mall, currently in the design stage, will be built on 15.7 hectares of land.

Developer Majid Al Futtaim Properties will invest $467.5m (OMR180m) in the Mall of Oman project, local daily Times of Oman reported.

"Right now 1,700 people are working at the City Centre Muscat, so we can easily say that Mall of Oman will generate three times the employment than the City Centre Muscat ," Husam Al Mandhari, senior mall manager for the City Centre Muscat, said.

Anchor tenants at the Mall of Oman will include Carrefour, VOX Cinemas and Magic Planet.

Al Mandhari said City Centre Muscat's expansion and refurbishment works are "on track", and are expected to be completed by November 2015.

"There are plans to build a new flyover at Seeb to facilitate access to the mall," he remarked, while speaking about the 1ha expansion project.
