Abu Dhabi-backed English club completes agreement to sign Sergio Aguero from Atletico Madrid
Sergio Aguero has become Manchester City’s latest signing after the terms of his five-year-contract were completed today.
The 23-year-old Argentinian international striker has moved to the Blues from Atletico Madrid, and is likely to be in the squad for this weekend’s Dublin Super Cup tournament.
He will wear the No 16 shirt, Manchester City said in an official statement without disclosing the transfer fee paid for the player, rumoured to be around $57m.
Juventus had also been chasing the diminutive forward who upstaged team mate Lionel Messi at the Copa America by scoring three times in four games.
Aguero, 23, was one of the few bright spots for Argentina, who bowed out of the event they were hosting at the quarter-final stage after a penalty shootout defeat to eventual champions Uruguay.
Aguero, married to one of Diego Maradona's daughters, has spent five seasons at Atletico Madrid where he won the Europa League in 2009/10.
He is expected to replace unsettled compatriot Carlos Tevez who is still reportedly looking to leave the club.
