An Indian man has reportedly been jailed for attempting to bribe officials who caught him offering an illegal taxi service at Dubai International Airport.

The 34-year-old met three men at the airport arrivals and took them to a nearby car, which Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) inspectors claim he intended to use as an illegal taxi, The National reported.

When the inspectors questioned him, he reportedly said he was giving friends a lift to Al Ain.

An inspector told the Dubai Criminal Court that when he started writing a fine for the Indian man, he was offered a bribe of AED800 ($217).

The inspector then called police, who arrested the Indian and confiscated the cash offered as a bribe.

The Indian had pleaded not guilty but was convicted last month, The National said.
