Mayflex reels in networking sales veteran

Charlie Bass to join Mayflex as Middle East sales director

Cabling infrastructure and networking distributor Mayflex has bolstered its regional team by appointing industry veteran Charlie Bass as its new Middle East sales director.

Bass, who begins the role this week, boasts more than 25 years of experience in the data and telecommunications industry, including senior positions at AT&T in both the UK and Middle East.

Prior to joining Mayflex he spent his time running a consultancy practice advising government and corporate organisations on the application of technology to improve business processes.

“This appointment is a significant step in the growth of our Middle East operations,” said Gary Highton, managing director at Mayflex. “Charlie’s knowledge of the industry and experience of the region, together with his invaluable sales background, will be key in helping us to achieve the aggressive sales plans in place for the future and strengthen the name of Mayflex throughout the industry.”

Although Bass will help to develop the business overall, his primary role will be a sales-driven one. His duties will involve planning the company’s regional sales and marketing strategy, as well as exploring new partnerships.

“The team has already been successful creating a $10 million-plus business from its initial setup. Our goal is to expand this further by working closely with our existing partners as well as establishing new relationships throughout the Middle East,” commented Bass.

Meanwhile, Excel Networking, a cabling brand connected to Mayflex, recently made its first major foray into Saudi Arabia with an investment in Riyadh-based staff and local stocking.

Mayflex boss Gary Highton, who is also managing director of Excel, believes the move — which is set to be preceded by the opening of an office in Jeddah — will boost its Saudi business.

“This investment has been made to get closer to current and potential customers and to be more agile and flexible in our sales, logistics and credit support to them,” he said.
