Media show hopes to be as big as Gitex

The Marketing & Media Show, which starts tomorrow, will become as big Gitex, claim its organisers.

The Marketing & Media Show, which starts tomorrow, will become as big Gitex, claim its organisers.

David Domoney, managing director of The Domus Group, which is staging the three-day long event, said the inaugural Marketing & Media Show was the most successful launch event he had ever been involved with.

The Gulf Information and Technology Exhibition is considered to be the third largest technology exhibition in the world, attracting thousands of visitors and more than 1000 journalists over its five days. Started in 1981 with just 46 exhibitors, the show now occupies every hall of the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

More than 100 exhibitors will be at the first Marketing & Media Show, including Al Jazeera, BBC World and Saatchi & Saatchi, and 10,000 visitors are expected attend.

Domoney said: “This show is a long-term show. We are delighted with what we have achieved in this first year and next year it will be three times as big. We are looking at the show becoming the same size as Gitex.

“Exhibitions in this country are very successful, the really successful ones have taken five years to establish. I have never known any event for the first time that has actually taken up the amount of space that the Marketing & Media show has,” he added.

Mohammad Al Mulla, director of Dubai Media City, which is supporting the exhibition, added: “We foresee it will grow to something similar as Gitex.

“Dubai Media City is keen to support and promote events that drive the growth of the media industry and is happy to be part of the Marketing & Media Show, the first major international platform for the marketing and media sector in the Middle East region. The event will be the ideal forum to exchange ideas and share knowlwdge on both global and regional development trends.”

The Domus Group has already booked the Convention and Exhibition centre until 2009.
