Netflix is considering including commentary from directors and actors appearing in their shows, and other behind-the-scenes bonus content as part of its offering for new shows, the video-on-demand service’s head of international original content told Arabian Business.

“Yeah, it's something that we're experimenting with, and playing around with, our product team has lots of really cool creative ideas,” Kelly Luegenbiehl, vice president of international originals at Netflix, said in an interview in Jordan earlier this month.

Netflix, which was founded in California in 1997, started as an online DVD rental company and many fans of the DVD format enjoy the added extras included, such as re-watching the movie with commentary from the directors and actors involved in the production.

“We did something with Our Planet recently where they were sort of like an extras element to it. That show definitely lends itself to that, like how did they make that happen, how is that possible? But it's something that's constantly evolving for us and we're trying to figure out what the right version of that is for Netflix,” Luegenbiehl added.

‘Our Planet’ was a British nature documentary which debuted on Netflix in April 2019 and was narrated by English broadcaster Sir David Attenborough. The show included a one hour-long bonus episode called ‘Our Planet - Behind The Scenes’ which described how some of the stunning video sequences were filmed.

One of Netflix’s most successful shows, ‘Stranger Things’, also included a bonus aftershow hosted by comedian Jim Rash, which was released to coincide with the second series in 2017.

The show, titled ‘Beyond Stranger Things’, featured interviews with the cast and crew and was intended to be watched after fans had binged the original show.
