Meet the new ‘n’ family

Networking vendor USRobotics, has started shipping five pre-n products under its Ndx family of wireless network solutions.

Networking vendor USRobotics, has started shipping five pre-n products under its Ndx family of wireless network solutions. These include the Ndx router, Ndx access point, Ndx ADSL2+ gateway, Ndx PC card and Ndx PCI adapter. According to the vendor, the wireless product family uses USRobotics' Ndx technology to give data speeds up to 270Mbit/s, and a range of up to five times more than standard 802.11g products.

USRobotics' claims that the Ndx range overcomes users' security fears of wireless networks by enabling security as default, with USRobotics' advanced SecureEZSetup installation wizard. This seamlessly configures inbuilt security features during installation of Ndx adapters.

Ndx security capabilities include Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA), WPA2/802.11i, 802.1x authentication and 64/128-bit WEP or AES encryption. Additionally, the Wireless Ndx Router and ADSL2+ gateway include integrated advanced firewall (SPI) support for VPN termination (IPSec) and VPN pass-through, as well as MAC address authentication.

"Our Ndx products provide consumers and businesses with the enhanced performance, security and ease of use they demand. The range provides industry-leading performance in all operating conditions, giving full interoperability with legacy wireless networks. Unlike some rival 802.11n products, Ndx solutions are WiFi Certified for compatibility with 802.11b and g," said Steven Dalrymple, USRobotics' CEO.

Compliant with the IEEE 802.11n Draft 1.0 standard for wireless networking products, the Ndx family is also fully compatible with previous wireless standards and products, including those meeting the 802.11b/g standards, USRobotics' own MAXg wireless product family and other accelerated wireless technologies.

The 802.11n standard itself is expected to be ratified by the IEEE in the latter half of 2008.
