Microsoft launches appeal against 899m euro fine from European Commission
Microsoft has announced an appeal against the 899m euro($1.39m) fine levied on it by the European Commission for anti-competitive practices.
The latest fine was imposed after Microsoft failed to provide interoperability information to competitors, part of a remedy from the original 2004 ruling against Microsoft for withholding information on its server products and for tying Windows Media Player to the Windows OS.
In a statement released on Friday Microsoft said that it was "filing this appeal in a constructive effort to seek clarity from the court", although no further information was given on the action.
Microsoft has been fined a total of 1.68 billion euros from the initial case and penalties for failing to meet conditions set by the Commission. For all the latest tech news from the UAE and Gulf countries, follow us on Twitter and Linkedin, like us on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube page, which is updated daily.
