Microsoft puts distributors in Lebanon

The enforcement of copyright laws in Lebanon has persuaded Microsoft to finally appoint three distributors to push its range of products.

Microsoft Gulf and Eastern Mediterranean (GEM) has appointed three direct distributors for its products in Lebanon.

Aptec, Mindware and IT-Net/Meatel have become authorised to distribute the complete range of Microsoft software products, software upgrades and product support services.

“The passing of copyright laws last year has encouraged many local computer companies to consider software solutions sales more seriously,” said Charbel Fakhoury, Microsoft’s business development manager for Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, Malta and Cyprus.

In a nutshell, the three will be charged with fuelling demand within Lebanon for Microsoft products and transitioning the distribution channels that exist from their current ramshackle state, into an efficient machine.

The appointment of three major players from the start shows that Microsoft means business.

“More choice of distributors for Lebanese resellers provides further impetus for companies to build their business on legitimate software solutions. The wider availability of licensed software along with more price and product support incentives will ultimately benefit customers with better value, more choice and will play a role in reducing the rate of software piracy,” he added.
