Microsoft shares IT experience with regional enterprise customers

Microsoft has kicked off its FaceIT conference series in the region, which aims to give local customers the opportunity to talk to the vendor about how it handles IT

Microsoft has been sharing the benefits of its IT experience with its local enterprise customers. The software vendor is hosting a series of regional FaceIT conferences, which link up enterprise-level customers with Microsoft’s own IT department.Microsoft operates a ‘dog food’ policy, meaning that it uses all of its own software in internal deployments before it is released for general use. This gives Microsoft’s IT organisation a very wide understanding of these products, and the FaceIT conference gives them a chance to share this understanding.“FaceIT Conferences bring the wealth of experience and knowledge on how Microsoft’s Global Operations and Technology Group deploys and supports Microsoft's products and technologies internally,” explained Hasim Ozcayir, senior IT account manager, Eastern Europe, Middle East & Africa. “FaceIT provides highly interactive workshops combining FaceIT Showcase presentations that highlights tools and processes in the IT environment with personal interaction from key IT experts.”The series of conferences opened in the UAE on Monday, and will take in Cairo, Jeddah, Riyadh, Dhahran, Amman, Beirut and Kuwait. The events are held worldwide—last year over 3,000 enterprise customers attended 41 different events.Ian Puttergill, group programme manager Microsoft EMEA said: “FaceIT is telling the internal Microsoft story. To give an idea of the size, depth and breadth of the organisation, we have over 10,000 servers worldwide, and over five million emails each day—we are a really large organisation, and we can tell customers what they should and shouldn’t do. It is a ‘warts and all’ discussion, not sales and marketing, so we can really tell the customers the whole story.”Among the subjects discussed at the UAE event were several of Microsoft’s internal enterprise applications, such as Micrsoft Market, an internal procurement application, and Microsoft Expense, for handling expenses claims.
