Microwave Data Systems reflects on Dubai oil event

After holding the annual four-day technical training event for oil and gas companies last month, Richard Nozel, MDS' vice president of sales and marketing, reflected on the meeting.

After holding the annual four-day technical training event for oil and gas companies last month, Richard Nozel, MDS' vice president of sales and marketing, reflected on the meeting.

1. What has MDS achieved by hosting the training event?

While this event allows us to better support our customers, end users and partners by providing hands-on training, a significant benefit for MDS is the ability to strengthen our existing relationships with these customers. There are some things that just cannot be facilitated through remote or "virtual" training and the personal interaction that takes place at an event such as this is an important element for us.

2. Why did you choose to hold it in Dubai?

Dubai is a terrific location for this training event because it is an easy destination for the majority of our customers in the Middle East to travel to. MDS' Middle East office is also located in Dubai, which helped simplify things in terms of logistics and shipping the equipment in for our customers to use in the training sessions.

3. What did the companies attending get out of the event?

The expectation is that our customers are gaining an increased level of expertise with our equipment through hands-on training. This is also a great opportunity for customers to learn from and interact with each other. Some of the most valuable information our customers receive comes from other customers-- through the lessons they've learned and successes they've achieved.

It's very common for a customer to share an experience where a unique application was used and for other customers to learn how the same technology can be applied to their specific needs and requirements. The networking and opportunities for our customers to learn from each other is invaluable.

4. Have you managed to secure any significant business since the meeting?

It's a bit early to know that, but we're confident that we will. Again, that's what makes this an important event for us-the relationship building and strengthening. Certainly it is our hope that these relationships will continue and grow.

5. Was reaction among delegates any different this time than in the past?

Our customers appreciate the opportunity to learn everything they can about our products so they can walk away knowing they are getting the most from our solutions that they possibly can. The breadth of our product offerings is always an impressive display.

6. Do you have any plans to change proceedings for next year's meet?

We're always able to come away from an event like this with new ideas and different ways to present the material. Not necessarily wholesale changes, but more fine-tuning in response to our customers' comments.

7. Is this event unique in any way?

This event is unique in that it is 100% focused on our customers and making certain their educational requirements are being met in terms of understanding the full capabilities of our products. The "hands-on" aspect of the training and complete access to MDS personnel to ask questions and ensure a complete understanding of the products is essential.

8. What have you learnt from the event?

An event such as this one always provides us with information about new and different opportunities in terms of what we can do for our customers and ways we can partner with them and make certain we continue to meet their needs.
