Middle East networks sign up kids shows

At least three more international kids shows set for Arabic debuts.

Middle East broadcasters have expanded their portfolio of children's programming at the annual MIPCOM audiovisual content market this month.

MBC signed up two new series at the MIPCOM Junior screening marketplace. The Dubai based broadcaster struck deals with UK based kids firm, Entertainment Rights, for Rupert Bear Follow the Magic and French company Marathon Media's flagship kids programme Monster Buster Club.

Meanwhile Egyptian production and distribution company Oryx, have signed up the fifth series of Marathon Media's Totally Spies.

Unnamed Middle East broadcasters are also in negations for the BBC commissioned series Postman Pat Special Delivery Service as well as the corporations own Finley the Fire Engine.

The deals signed at the Cannes conference come on the back of the agreement between MTV and the Arab Media Group (AMG) to create a major new kids channel, Nickelodeon Arabia. This deal will bring the massive international franchises Spongebob Squarepants and Dora the Explorer to the Middle East.
