New hotels to open in UAE, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia
Millennium & Copthorne, Middle East and Africa has announced plans to substantially expand its operating portfolio in the GCC region over the next year with 10 hotels set to open in the next 12 months.
The global hotel operator will open new properties in UAE, Qatar, Oman and Saudi Arabia.
The new hotels will add over 4,000 rooms to the group’s existing operating portfolio of 26 hotels in the Middle East region, ensuring it stays on track to have 100 hotels by 2020.
“We are entering a very exciting period in the Group’s evolution that will see us extend our presence across the Gulf region as well as in new markets such as Georgia,” said Ali Hamad Lakhraim Alzaabi, president and CEO, Millennium & Copthorne MEA.
“We are building an enviable market share, with a unique portfolio of brands catering towards different audiences, from midscale through to luxury. We believe we are in a strong position to meet the needs of the market by offering global expertise alongside an understanding of the local market. These new openings bring us closer to realising our ambitious vision of having 100 hotels by 2020 and solidifying our position as a leading hotel operator in the region.”
The next property opening is Bab Al Qasr in Abu Dhabi, a flagship opening for the group and pioneering a new portfolio of signature hotels called ‘The Biltmore Collection’.
The property is based on Abu Dhabi's Corniche, and has 677 rooms and residences, a private beach, 16 meeting rooms and a grand ballroom.
Having already opened two hotels in Saudi Arabia this year, Millennium & Copthorne is set to take its total number of properties in the kingdom to ten.
Upcoming openings include Millennium Hotel Jizan and Millennium Tabouk in the west, M Hotel Makkah, Kingsgate Al Safa Hotel, Kingsgate Al Henawy Hotel, all in Makkah and a further property in Madinah.
Two more hotels are due to open in Oman, including the five-star Grand Millennium Muscat Hotel. Due to fully open this autumn, the alcohol-free property will have direct access to the Muscat Grand Mall and will comprise 328 guest rooms, suites and apartments as well as a large ballroom, an international restaurant, extensive meeting facilities and a luxury spa.
Meanwhile, the 164-key Copthorne Falcon Hotel is due to launch in Muscat in early 2017 as part of the group’s plans to extend the brand across the region.
In addition, Millennium & Copthorne is poised to extend its footprint in Qatar with the opening of the 232 key Millennium Plaza Doha, the group’s fourth hotel in the capital.
The group is also set to announce another new market entry next month, with a property due to open next spring.
The new properties will create significant employment opportunities across the region, with plans to hire 2000 employees over the next year to operate the hotels. For all the latest travel news from the UAE and Gulf countries, follow us on Twitter and Linkedin, like us on Facebook and subscribe to our YouTube page, which is updated daily.
