Mixed reviews for IHFEX

The International Hospitality Furniture Expo (IHFEX 2007) closed last month to mixed reviews following a disappointingly low visitor turnout.

The International Hospitality Furniture Expo (IHFEX 2007) closed last month to mixed reviews following a disappointingly low visitor turnout.

The event, held from 3 to 5 September at the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre, featured 18 furniture makers and interior fit-out specialists from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the UAE. In addition, a number of contract manufacturers from Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Indonesia were present.

Some exhibitors suggested bad timing could be to blame for the low numbers. "It wasn't right having the show with summer just finishing and people away but it's the first year and people that have visited are more genuine," said Nader Hassan of Trevira.

The low turnout was balanced out by the high quality of visitors, according to some of the exhibitors. "Even though it was a really quiet show, it did give us the chance to give the visitors we did have more time and professional advice. It also gave us the opportunity to meet with our clients from Bahrain. It was most definitely quality rather than quantity of visitors," admitted Albert Douglas of Alomi Flooring.
