Emirates Group subsidiary marks 100 years of trading in Dubai this year
MMI has opened its 50th store in the region at Armada Towers in Jumeirah Lake Towers.
The new opening also marks the milestone for the company, a subsidiary of Emirates Group, as it celebrates 100 years of trading in Dubai.
MMI, which started as a creekside shipping agent, has grown to become one of the region’s leading independent beverage distributors.
The retailer has had a steady increase in outlets across Dubai since opening its first shop in the 1960s and expects to open more stores in the region in the near future.
“Our goal is to go where our customers want us to be,” said Mike Glen, head of MMI UAE.
“We’re focused on providing convenient locations in local neighbourhoods where they can find brands that they know and love. Our customer base is broad, which is reflected in the wide selection of products you will find in our new store and all those across our portfolio, as well as the range of price points.”
With a growing expat population in the UAE, Glen said consumers are increasingly looking for the ease of shopping locally, with the convenience sector currently experiencing the fastest growth in grocery retail.
“In order to meet the needs of our new and existing customer base, we continue to broaden our reach with new locations,” added Glen.
MMI’s portfolio of 16 stores across the emirate includes locations such as the Mall of Emirates, Ibn Battuta Mall, Dubai Festival City, Deira, Al Wasl and dnata Business Bay. It also has stores in Ras Al Khaimah, Abu Dhabi and Oman. MMI’s retail portfolio also includes Al Hamra Cellar in Ras Al Khaimah.
The company also has joint venture operations in Abu Dhabi, Oman, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Maldives, India and Thailand.
