Nakheel design with LEED in mind

Nakheel's Design Group plans to design LEED accredited green buildings.

Nakheel's Design Group plans to design LEED accredited green buildings.

"We have green buildings planned, all of which are LEED accredited and we are part of the Emirates Green Building Council (Emirates GBC).

"We now implement district cooling and use recycled water from treatment plants, to reduce consumption," said Shaun Lenehan, head of environment, Nakheel Design Group.

"We manage our buildings post-construction, unlike some developers who hand their buildings over to the council. It is in our best interest to consider sustainability," he added.

The Group Group is responsible for including the design and implementation of health, safety and environment guidelines in all developments.

"Our projects go through a building management system (BMS) to look at the energy efficiency of our buildings. We feed our asset management team the sustainable requirements for a building, from orientation to the development phase," explained Lenehan.

The group has recently been awarded three international specification and certification standards, by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) for Health and Saftey, Environmental Management and Quality Management.
