Construction work begins on Greenland, more islands to start 'in coming months'.
Dubai developer Nakheel announced on Wednesday that work will begin on various islands at its The World project in the next few months.
The news comes as European developer Major Trade confirmed that it has begun soil testing and reclamation work on an island in the Greenland section, prior to carrying out vibro-compaction next month. "The World continues to be recognised by developers as a very attractive project given its differentiated offering and its close proximity and accessibility to emerging markets,” said Marwan Al Qamzi, group managing director of Nakheel. “A long term business plan is in place and we are pleased to see construction on several islands starting in the coming months."
Plans for the island that Major Trade is working on include a modern residential villa development and a luxury boutique hotel, the company said in a statement.
The developer said it had engaged two firms, architectural and cladding outfit Arabian Profile Company Ltd and Canadian Gulf Construction, to carry out work on the island. "We are delighted to have begun developing our island already and also upon completion of the project we are confident that there will be high demand for our luxury residences,” said Viktor Herceg, managing director of Major Trade.
“We are fully committed to this project and are grateful for the support of Nakheel as we work to create our first island development.”
Logistics will be coordinated through the purpose-built The World Construction Logistics Port at Mina Rashid, which is operated by Penguin Marine Boats Services.
just like a few months ago arabianbusiness had an "exclusive" that the 'England' island owner was beginning construction. Nothing has happened.
We have not heard of Waterfront progress for quite some time! Any updates there?
Great idea/concept but where do residents on these islands (assuming they are not all hotel guests) park their boats/cars when they come to the mainland?
Here we go again .......yawnnn!
Nice to hear things moving along. The World is an amazing project and should be fantastic once they are fully developed...well worth waiting for however many years it takes. ps - Did Britain get sold yet ? If not don't sell it to Gordon Brown or Tony Blair, chances are they'd manage to sink that one too !
This will be a great idea to help the economy instead..........
